In looking to Do Better, we will begin by better recognizing YOU. The simple fact is that recognition fuels positive behaviors. Unfortunately, when PromoEQP (or anyone else) fails to recognize the remarkable things happening in front of our eyes, then we become part of stifling everyone’s growth. 

Today, we begin by acknowledging the positive usage of the PromoEQP Facebook Group page. These examples range from discussions to shared information. Regardless of the post’s nature, we see these as distributors (or suppliers) elevating social media discourse and seeking to turn it into a positive communication and relationship tool. 

Now if I missed other good posts, I promise to do better next time… Because recognizing discussion on the PromoEQP Group page will become an ongoing feature in our updates. 

Simply put: PromoEQP gets stronger when we hear from YOU. These recognized posts helped to make PromoEQP better – and, like I said, DOING BETTER is the focus for 2025.

Distributors are doing incredible work in challenging markets…

Suppliers are doing incredible work matching Distributor efforts…

It’s time to expect ANY company/program/organization that sits between a distributor and supplier — making their money off of your work — to step up and DO BETTER for YOU than getting more for themselves.

A homeowner… Builder… Realtors would never accept a Black & Decker Power Tools representative showing up to claim credit and financial reward (from each party) for the house being sold. The sheer idea of this proposition is ridiculous… and yet… In our Industry, we have made it a standard of operations.

The tools and resources you use… The groups and programs you pay to be a part of… Are all battling it out to be recognized as the reason why YOU are successful — and then claiming a cut off of the back of everyone else’s work (sometimes a cut from the Distributor… Sometimes a cut from the Supplier… Often a cut from BOTH).  

For as much as PromoEQP has successfully attacked this systematic abusiveness AND recognized that YOU are your own competitive advantage, the behavior nevertheless persists. The reasoning for it persisting is easy: Bigger Companies would prefer to pay the money to get rid of Small Companies than go through the effort of getting better at their jobs.

Some companies aren’t built for competition… So they instead use their finances to play games and abuse the system.

The difference between NOW and 2012 (when PromoEQP launched) is that YOU can be seen and heard… as long as YOU choose to show up and speak!… When YOU make yourself known, the entire system is forced to acknowledge YOU!  — And those who are going out of their way to ignore you) are demonstrating EXACTLY who they are and how they’re running their businesses.

The time is NOW to DEMAND BETTER… You deserve to demand better. Stop being sold with a pitch that feeds on your fears and belittles your successes, and start demanding the resources and tools that will support Your drive to build a successful business.

YOU have made PromoEQP relevant in a market that did not want PromoEQP to be relevant… And I commit that PromoEQP will ALWAYS be a resource that amplifies YOUR voice and demands that YOUR needs are met.

All I ask is that YOU don’t be a stranger. CHOOSE to be seen and heard.

Why are we leaving Sales Professionals to just “Turn it On”?

This is an issue that I have had with our Industry for a long, long, LONG time… And lets be clear: What I am looking for I AM NOT SEEING in our current selection of Educators.

Within our current Industry, I see that we have:

  • Inspirational/Motivational Trainers… Come to think of it our Industry seemingly has a disproportionate number of these type of Speakers than any other industry.

  • Purveyors of “Best Practices”… Grab your pen and paper and write down these nuggets of behavioral gold that you’re likely already doing (but not referring to with a good catch phrase).

  • Wolves in Sheep Clothing… Ever felt like you were being sold on a supplier’s product when you had expected to be educated on a business approach?… Yeah. Me too.

  • Those Who Like to Hear Themselves Speak… This Speaker knows your biggest problem is that You are not Them. If You were like them, You would be as successful as they claim to be.

  • Software Trainers… These people are training you on the resources you have purchased. Undoubtably valuable, but undeniably lacking in Sales-centric activities.

That is the best that our industry has to offer the Sales Professional. Additionally, while I may be sarcastic in my descriptions, I do acknowledge that each option does have a value… I’m just being honest with saying that none of these options adequately support prepping a Sales Professional to be ready to act on an opportunity that suddenly presents itself.

So, why is that? Why do we fail supporting Sales Professionals?

Truth is… It’s REALLY hard to do. Each of your situations (and markets) are unique — so a singular “expert” may sound theoretically good while ringing practically hollow. There is also the issue of the marketplace of buyers constantly (and aggressively) changing — which means that an “expert” who has been out of the market for a period of time isn’t providing any actionable insight. Finally, the industry honestly doesn’t know what you need.

Now, most of you know me well enough at this point to know that I don’t drop loaded questions WITHOUT having something in mind… Still, before opening up my personal thoughts, I need to know if I’m missing something.

Is there a Sales Development program within the Promotional Product Industry that I am missing?

Is there something out there that is helping you keep up with a changing market and new buyers?

Am I overlooking an industry-wide initiative that works out the “Sales Muscles”?

So, yeah… Now there’s a Podcast

There has always been a discussion over putting out a podcast. The question we faced was: Does PromoEQP do this “in-house”, OR do we identify a respected industry voice that has something powerful to say (that is on brand with PromoEQP)?

The problem with doing a podcast in-house, is that after the 4th or 5th episode, most everyone would realize that I’m really just a broken record. Seriously, I’m essentially ALWAYS saying some deviation of the same thing:

  • “Distributors deserve access to competitive costs.”

  • “The Distributor is indispensable.”

Yeah… That’s my jam. It works for keeping PromoEQP laser focused on it’s mission — but is miserably redundant in a podcast form.

Enter Brandon Pecharich…

PromoEQP initiated a discussion with Brandon. The reasoning is simple: He is easily one of the most trusted and recognizable faces in the industry. For 7 years he has been appearing daily in your inboxes with the PromoErrDay series. Add on top of that his turn into interviews and industry speaking events. Hell, he even got one of the PPAI Awards for being important.

Regardless of the accolades and reasons for WHY Brandon is a big deal, it was Brandon’s vision for Mark8media that grabbed us. He envisioned a media platform that filled the current void of valued media resources in the industry. A platform that was capable of informing, entertaining, inspiring, and connecting something of value to a distributor audience. He recognizes the challenges many of you face — and recognizes the reasons for your justified cynicism in current slate of industry talking heads.

In essence… Brandon has a lot to say (and so far I deeply appreciate what I’m hearing). What he has to say will be seen in a new way that PromoErrDay interacts with a distributor at the beginning of 2025… There will be ongoing interviews with End-Buyers in the Trendsetters series… A new concept of distributor engagement with a newly established DNA benefit to PromoEQP… and a Distributor Pitch-Program so cool that I don’t want to spoil it before he has the ability to announce it.

Today, however, I am thrilled to introduce unBRNDED. This podcast, which capitalizes on the new long-form discussion format, is created to engage with business professionals OUTSIDE of the Promo Industry bubble. One thing Brandon understands deeply is that a distributor right now is either forced to learn the “hard way” or through peer connections… For your benefit, that can AND SHOULD BE expanded!

unBRNDED is created to tap into the creative energy, business practices, client management approaches, and challenges faced from professionals across a broad swath of outside markets. Regardless of whether you completely connect with the person speaking, you will ALWAYS identify a part of yourself in what is being discussed — and that is what makes it remarkable.

What I learned on my Summer Vacation.

The power of the Water Bottle (and reusable cups)… Uniforms MUST include shoes… The surprising practicality and imprint-ability of the Hand Fan… TOTES… Fanny Packs are for security… Olympic Fan-Zones connected ALL OF FRANCE to the Olympics… Previously received Promo Products RULED the Parisian streets.

Just to be clear… This is about to become an absolute OBSESSION for me. There are at least 4 pages of bullet-pointed notes that I created surrounding imprinted products and the Paris 2024 Olympics (and each bullet-point deserves to be an entire write-up in and of themselves.).

The first product I purchased for the Paris 2024 Olympics was in August 2021… LA2028 artwork and products are already being sold.

While the Paris Olympics opened my eyes to amazing opportunities each distributor will have available to you with the upcoming LA2028 games… French Marketers largely failed people attending the Olympics (and we can’t).

People CRAVED anything that could physically connect them to either the Event they attended or to the City of Paris itself. Unfortunately, WITH VERY FEW NOTABLE EXCEPTIONS, the French sponsors and advertisers failed to deliver on what people were craving. This failure left people dependent (and settling) on purchasing what was available in the on-sight boutiques.

We can do better… and to the benefit of each of You, I expect we will.

However, in order to ensure that YOU see the potential benefits of the LA 2028 games, We will all need to start the planning, engagement, and groundwork necessary NOW.

Starting with the next Monthly Update, I will begin breaking down the Paris Olympic experience. These will start to define Opportunities (for everyone)… Exploring ProductsImprint OptionsSuccesses and Failuresand ways to begin testing ALL OF THIS with the World Cup games coming into the U.S, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.

People Got Questions About How the Wrigley Rooftop Ticket Crediting Works…

PromoEQP has planned a REALLY cool Event… anD if you want to be there, Then PromoEQP wants you there.

The problem is, that Rooftop DOES NOT have unlimited space. This means we need to use the purchased ticket to ensure that you have secured your place at the event. Regardless, this isn’t about a dollar grab for PromoEQP. This is about creating an event that everyone can enjoy and attend. HENCE, the crediting of the ticket cost BACK to your PromoEQP Subscription.

How much is PromoEQP crediting?

PromoEQP will credit up to 10 tickets ($390) to a single company. It should come as no surprise that this roughly equals an Annual Subscription to PromoEQP.

Who does the credit apply to?

The credit applies to those involved in the Distributorship. That includes: Distributor plus-ones (because they put up with you), Sales Staff, Support Staff, Administrators… Basically, anyone that makes your distributorship hum! Heck, you could use this event to hold a summer party FOR your company. Doesn’t matter to us, you all deserve to have a good time.

Who does the credit NOT apply to?

In a (hyphenated) word: End-Buyers… Feel free to bring your End-Buyer to the event if you choose. Truth is, paying a massively discounted ticket of $39 for a potentially large sale makes a lot of sense. However, End-Buyers do need to be identified and treated differently — and this results in a cost.

There are some noticeable changes happening within SAGE. If you have been using the SAGEWeb resource, you will now see that the formatting of Supplier Pricing Policies are now equal to the formatting in SAGEOnline. The benefit of having the information formatted appropriately is that we are now able to actively engage in ensuring that policies are fully updated with not only Pricing Policies, but also any additional benefits offered by the Suppliers.

One additional change you may have noticed is that all pricing displayed in SAGE is now displayed at Column Costs. This DOES NOT mean that these policies have changed! Rather, we are doing our best to accommodate all distributors when it comes to seeking information with the SAGE platform. This means that distributors who had quoted prices as a mark-up on costs, will no longer have EQP pricing negatively impacting their quotes. Additionally, with new enhancements coming regularly from SAGE, PromoEQP is excited over possibilities of displaying True Cost information within SAGE. This means identifying Exclusions, noting Conditions, and displaying accurate pricing information right in the program.
